Our social media cover star: Rebecca at QuirkshopUK

After 12 years trading online, QuirkshopUK has proved a really popular addition since opening a bricks-and-mortar shop in Durham Market Hall.

One of the joys of Durham’s terrific Market Hall is that it always combines long-established quality businesses – like previous cover stars Crafty-Nook, Marla Jones Jewellery or Bound 2 Fit – with exciting newcomers.

So, you’re never likely to see an empty unit hanging around for long, and there’s nearly always something new to discover alongside the reliable favourites.

For our latest cover star, we were delighted to meet Rebecca from QuirkshopUK, whose business has already proved a really popular addition since opening in the Market Hall in April.

Occupying stalls 40, 41 and 42, QuirkshopUK sells vintage, designer and branded clothing and accessories for women, men and kids, with quality items in stock for every budget, age, size and style.

And with her 35 years of retail experience, including with prominent national brands, you can see Rebecca’s eye for detail and beautiful curation in the way that everything is merchandised!

Indeed, though QuirkshopUK is new to Durham city centre, it’s a business that Rebecca has already been trading online for 12 years, including via its popular eBay shop. So, when people tell you the Internet is “killing the high street”, it’s not quite as simple as all that – there are plenty of retailers, including here in Durham, that have successfully moved into bricks and mortar after building their business online first.

Talking to Rebecca, she’s clear that opening a physical shop is a great way to “raise brand awareness”, by getting QuirkshopUK in front of new customers who may not have come across it before.

And we can’t argue with her observation that “it’s way more fun being here chatting to people than being behind a computer”!

You can find QuirkshopUK open inside Durham Market Hall from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, and you can stay up to date with all the latest news by following the shop’s accounts on Instagram and Facebook.

We’re always looking for our next cover star – and there’s no cost to getting involved – so whether you’re a brand-new Durham city centre business or one that’s been around a while, get in touch so that we can arrange to visit you!
