What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

If you contact us via the website, we will only use the information that you submit for the purposes of managing your enquiry and/or relationship with us.

The information that you supply will not be used for any additional marketing purposes.

The actual submission data is stored in the database of this site, and is emailed directly to us (i.e. the site author who published the page on which the contact form resides) as the owner of the form. This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name and email address, alongside details of any options that have been checked, or information entered into the free-text boxes.

Login cookies

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”).

Google Analytics uses cookies to help the website analyse how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser; however, please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

WordPress Stats

We use the Jetpack WordPress Stats module by Automattic to record traffic visiting this website. Data used by this tool includes:

  • IP address
  • WordPress.com user ID (if logged in)
  • WordPress.com username (if logged in)
  • User agent
  • Visiting URL
  • Referring URL
  • Timestamp of event
  • Browser language
  • Country code.

As site owner, we do not have access to any of this information via this feature. For example, we can see that a specific post has 285 views, but not which specific users or accounts viewed that post. Stats logs – containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) – are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.

Activity tracked includes: post and page views; video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com); outbound link clicks; referring URLs and search engine terms; and country.

When this module is enabled, Jetpack also tracks performance on each page load that includes the JavaScript file used for tracking stats. This is exclusively for aggregate performance tracking across Jetpack sites in order to make sure that the plugin and code is not causing performance issues, and includes the tracking of page load times and resource loading duration (image files, JavaScript files, CSS files, etc.)

Sharing buttons

Where official sharing buttons are active on the site, each button loads content directly from its service in order to display the button as well as information and tools for the sharing party.

As a result, each service can in turn collect information about the sharing party, such as the sharing party’s IP address as well as the page URL.

Links to other sites

Our website contains links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site.

Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of these websites. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
