About this page

Once again, during lockdown, our city’s independent businesses are showing what they’re made of as they find creative and convenient ways to keep serving us all.

Remember, some independent shops – such as those selling food, medicines and pet supplies – count as “essential retailers”, and their doors remain open during lockdown.

Other shops aren’t allowed to let customers in for browsing, but can open for click and collect – so you can order online beforehand, such as online or by phone, and collect from the store.

Cafes and restaurants in the city are also closed for sitting in, but many are offering takeaway or delivery services.

Many of the city’s well-loved market traders and producers also operate online and offer home delivery, meaning that you can still support them from the comfort of your home.

Let’s keep spreading the word

We’ve been using our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to big up our city’s independent traders as much as we can this lockdown, but we need your help.

if you’re a local BUSINESS trading through lockdown, please post a comment below, comment on Facebook, or drop us a message, to let us know how customers can reach you.

And if you’re a local CUSTOMER, please do share your positive experiences of supporting Durham’s independent traders during lockdown, especially if they might not be active online themselves.

We will keep updating this page as long as is necessary to showcase all the great independent businesses in our city as they work hard to get through these challenging times with our support!
