Our social media cover star: Jill, Leah and Thomas at Maple Patisserie

Offering fresh coffee and a delicious range of sweet treats, Maple Patisserie opened at The Riverwalk in Durham earlier this week.

We like to mix it up at Indie Durham City, and after featuring one of our city’s long-established businesses – Durham Markets’ Bound 2 Fit – as our previous cover star, this time we’ve opted for a business that’s been trading just a matter of days!

Maple Patisserie at The Riverwalk started gaining attention as soon as its signage went up a month ago – after all, who can resist the thought of cakes? – so there was plenty of excitement when the shop opened its doors on Tuesday this week.

As you’d expect, Maple Patisserie offers a delicious range of sweet treats that you can take home, eat inside, or enjoy at one of the outside tables overlooking Durham’s magnificent river views. There’s also fresh coffee to drink in or take away, supplied by local business Fika Coffee Roasters.

Indeed, many of Maple Patisserie’s ingredients are locally sourced – which is something we always love to see – while the business is the epitome of an independent, family-run enterprise. Call in and you’re likely to meet one or all of our happy cover stars – mum Jill, as well as son Thomas and daughter-in-law Leah.

As far as we can recall, the small but prominent Riverwalk unit that Maple Patisserie now calls home has never had a permanent occupant before, so it’s great to see it brought so tastily to life. We wish Jill and her family every success!

As always, if you’re an existing or aspiring Durham city centre business, do get in touch if you’re interested in some free marketing and mentoring support via the Indie Durham City project. You could end up as our next cover star!
