Robinsons Greengrocers is paradise for Durham foodies – and we’re on a mission to get more people in on the secret!

Tucked away in North Road, you’d normally see Robinsons as soon as you step out of the city’s bus station – though there’s currently a big hole, of course, where the old bus station has gone but the new one is yet to take shape.

Despite the disruption, North Road is very much still open for business as usual – and not only that, but it features some of Durham’s best and most interesting independents, with barely an empty shop to be seen.

Robinsons itself has traded at number 62 for 17 years, though you might not have seen the shop since it had a stunning makeover in 2020 – showcased in one of our Facebook posts back in July.

The range of products stocked is astonishing, with all the delicious fresh fruit, vegetables and salads that you’d expect alongside many more hard-to-find items.

Need some okra or plantains? Robinsons can sort you out. Tamarinds and kumquats? No problem! And as well as the more exotic fruit and veg, you can also pick up other foodie delights such as locally sourced eggs, fresh herbs, chillies, oils and vinegars, local honey, Weardale cheeses, dried foods, artisan bread, and speciality Durham Coffee.

Everything is geared up to make shopping as convenient as possible, too. You can call into the shop between 9am and 5pm six days a week, with free delivery in the local area available when you spend over £10 instore – handy if you end up buying more than you’d expected.

Alternatively, you can shop online at the Robinsons website, and get your order delivered to your doorstep in the Durham area.

There are also student and loyalty discounts available, to make shopping at Robinsons all the more worthwhile.

We’ll admit, it took us a while to discover Robinsons, but we guarantee that once you step over the threshold you’ll be hooked!

So, do pay a visit, say hello to owner Sandra, and be sure to give the shop’s Facebook page a like, to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the latest news.
