Our social media cover star: Tarryn at The Nook

Tarryn at The Nook, in Durham Market Hall, offers a range of delicious handmade treats that that are entirely gluten free and vegan.

You can be forgiven for thinking that all we do is write about baking, after following up our last cover star business, Little Bit Cookie, with another new Durham Market Hall favourite – the wonderful The Nook, run by the lovely Tarryn!

Offering a range of delicious handmade treats that that are entirely gluten free and vegan, The Nook has proved a popular addition since it opened in the Market Hall, opposite BookWyrm, back in November last year.

However, as The Mann’s Vegan Scran, the business had already become a well-known sight at outdoor markets and events, including in Durham, before taking the step of opening its permanent home.

As well as enquiring about the long-established services that Tarryn offers, such as special occasion cakes and afternoon teas to order, visitors to the Market Hall can discover an ever-changing array of beautiful cookies, cakes, scones, brownies, blondies, shortbreads and more, available to take away now.

There are also savoury treats to enjoy, such as The Nook’s famous (and obviously egg-free) Scotch “eggs”, described by one recent reviewer as “mind-blowing”, ” full of flavour” and “absolutely delicious”.

And if you can’t wait to get home before sampling your purchases, don’t worry – earlier this year, The Nook already expanded the size of its stall to create a delightful cosy seating area – a nook, if you will – where you can savour what you’ve bought and watch the ever-bustling market unfold before your eyes.

As ever, we encourage you to show your support to Tarryn and her business by not just calling in and spending but also by making sure that you follow and engage on social media. There are regular updates on Facebook and Instagram at @thenookdurham, but be warned – all the pictures of tasty things are likely to make you feel hungry!
