Treasure Trail means more than shopping back in Durham

Families are invited back into Durham to enjoy a treasure trail round some of the city’s independent businesses – and a chance to win prizes.

Families are invited back into Durham City to enjoy a treasure trail around some of the city centre’s independent businesses… and for the chance to win toy shop prizes.

Durham Markets, Totally Locally Durham and the City of Durham Parish Council, working with a number of independent businesses, have created a Family Treasure Trail, with clues to be found in Claypath, Fowler’s Yard, Saddler Street, Elvet Bridge, North Road and in the Market Hall. Every correct entrant will receive a Crème Egg, and two correct entries selected at random will receive prize vouchers for either Bear Bottom in the Market Hall or Meeple Games on Saddler Street.

Colin Wilkes, Managing Director of Durham Markets Company, commented: “It’s wonderful to see the city open again; so many people are working hard to encourage people to come back and enjoy the city safely.

“We wanted to make a special effort for children and their families. So many of the fun things they normally do during school holidays and weekends have been on hold, so hopefully they can now enjoy not only a family walk but also a treasure trail around Durham city centre and help their parents discover some more independent businesses here.”

Graham Soult, owner of retail consultancy CannyInsights.com, which manages the Indie Durham City project, said: “A trail that’s mostly in the open air is a fantastic way to let people explore the city centre safely, and to give them a chance to revisit some of their favourite independent businesses while also discovering new ones.

“We saw several new independents open in Durham before Christmas, and there are quite a few more on the way. We hope families who maybe haven’t visited Durham for a while will be surprised and delighted by all the city’s treasures!”

The Treasure Trails can be completed every day except Sundays, from Thursday 15th to Saturday 24th April – but be warned, the location of the clues may change at any point!

Entry forms can be collected from the Market Hall entrance or Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe in Durham Market Hall, or downloaded on the day here!
